Study flags risks of raw fish consumption

Researchers have highlighted the key role played by eating raw fish at restaurants in the transmission of a parasite.

Kudoa septempunctata is a parasite that causes gastroenteritis within hours of consuming raw infected fish. It is best known from farmed olive flounder but has also been reported from black scraper, wild grass puffer, and Japanese whiting.
