NatureBest Precut & Produce LLC, with facilities located in Missouri City, TX, and Houston, TX, is recalling products sold under various brand names that contain jalapeño peppers because of an outbreak of Salmonella infections.
This recall was initiated after NatureBest was notified by Coast Citrus Distributors that certain jalapeño peppers supplied by Coast Citrus Distributors were subject to a recall.
The Food and Drug Administration and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention are investigating illnesses in a multistate outbreak of Salmonella Javiana infections linked to jalapeño peppers from Sinaloa, Mexico and distributed by Coast Citrus Distributors.
Based on epidemiological information collected by CDC, a total of 345 people infected with the outbreak strain of Salmonella have been reported from 27 states. Products manufactured using the affected jalapeños may therefore be impacted.
NatureBest Precut & Produce LLC has ceased distribution of the affected products and is working in cooperation with its supplier and regulatory authorities regarding this recall.
The products recalled by NatureBest Precut & Produce LLC were distributed to retailers in Texas and Louisiana between July 3 and Aug. 5. To view photos of the products subject to the recall, click here.

About Salmonella infections
Food contaminated with Salmonella bacteria does not usually look, smell, or taste spoiled. Anyone can become sick with a Salmonella infection. Infants, children, seniors, and people with weakened immune systems are at higher risk of serious illness because their immune systems are fragile.
Anyone who has eaten any recalled products and developed symptoms of Salmonella infection should seek medical attention. Sick people should tell their doctors about the possible exposure to Salmonella bacteria because special tests are necessary to diagnose salmonellosis. Salmonella infection symptoms can mimic other illnesses, frequently leading to misdiagnosis.
Symptoms of Salmonella infection can include diarrhea, abdominal cramps, and fever within 12 to 72 hours after eating contaminated food. Otherwise, healthy adults are usually sick for four to seven days. In some cases, however, diarrhea may be so severe that patients require hospitalization.
Older adults, children, pregnant women, and people with weakened immune systems, such as cancer patients, are more likely to develop a severe illness and serious, sometimes life-threatening conditions.
Some people get infected without getting sick or showing any symptoms. However, they may still spread the infections to others.
