FAO puts focus on Cyclospora prevention

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) has released a factsheet on Cyclospora with a focus on preventing contamination.

Cyclospora cayetanensis, a foodborne parasite that can cause diarrhea, is not reliably eliminated by washing or commonly used chlorine-based sanitizers. The parasite sickened 20,000 people in the United States this summer and was linked to iceberg lettuce.
