As nearshoring trends continue to drive manufacturing to Mexico, capacity fluctuations are requiring cross-border freight companies to strategically invest in their cross-border shipping capacity.
“As is already the case with the USMCA corridor, more imports are coming north from Mexico,” said Brad Colvin, director of corporate business development and logistics at Tri-National Inc (TNi). “It will only create a larger imbalance of freight going back to the border and on into Mexico, creating issues with capacity balancing,” he added.
Tri-National is a North American cross-border and nearshoring freight specialist. The door-to-door transportation company has a 30-year track record of seamless cross-border transportation via service points in Mexico through the Texas border and throughout the Southeast and Midwest Corridor of the United States.
Now, the St. Charles, Missouri-based company is expanding in South Texas and the Texarkana region.
Tri-National’s investments into its facility footprint will be focused on bolstering the company’s cross-border capabilities between Mexico and the United States. Construction is underway on a new terminal in San Antonio, and extensive renovations are in process at TNi’s existing location in Texarkana.
The new San Antonio terminal will be conveniently located south of the Interstate 410 loop where it merges with Interstate 35 within a block of truck stop and retail access. This completely new facility will feature improved driver amenities, operations and maintenance support as well as provide a large area for safe overnight parking. The new location is set to open in 2025.
TNi’s remodeled Texarkana terminal will be twice the size of its existing footprint and will combine the shop and operations facility under one roof. Additional improvements include increased parking and truck stop access. The Texarkana terminal remodel is expected to be move-in ready by Aug. 1, 2024.
Quick transport between major border crossing points has been a key priority for TNi’s investment strategy. “Tri-National is uniquely positioned to grow their cross-border and nearshoring capabilities with their terminal upgrades in San Antonio and Texarkana,” said Colvin. “Positioned right off I-30, the new TNi Texarkana location will allow for easy one day transport to and from multiple border crossing points in South Texas.”
Tri-National acquired regional carrier Texas Freight Services in 2023, absorbing its locations in Houston and Fort Worth, Texas, as well as Jeffersonville, Georgia. 2024 marks the 20th anniversary of the Tri-National brand name.
