The newest installment of the influential Netflix show will feature Jamie Oliver, José Andrés, Alice Waters, and Thomas Keller
Six months after Chef’s Table: Noodles, Netflix has released the trailer for the newest installment of the popular food show. Chef’s Table: Legends will “will pay tribute to the culinary icons who have helped shape the modern world of food,” the press release reads. Its premiere on April 28 commemorates Chef’s Table’s 10th anniversary; the show’s first season, which featured major culinary stars including Massimo Bottura and Francis Mallman, first aired on Netflix on April 26, 2015.
Over the show’s seven seasons — not including more focused installments like Noodles, BBQ, Pizza, and France — Chef’s Table has continually broadened its scope across the global culinary landscape, introducing viewers to chefs from around the world with whom they might not otherwise have been familiar. Legends, however, pares its coverage back to the most recognizable names in Western food media. The release reads: “Jamie Oliver, José Andrés, Alice Waters, and Thomas Keller are legendary figures who have redefined what it means to cook. They are icons that should need no introduction.” None of these chefs have had dedicated Chef’s Table episodes before.
Chef’s Table’s cinematic style has been undeniably influential in how food is depicted on film today, and it helped spurred the growth of Netflix’s food documentary shows like Street Food and High on the Hog. While the trailer leans into the franchise’s emblematic slow-motion close-ups of flames and precisely plated food and dramatic instrumental music, the release promises that even in the show’s tenth year, it still has new tricks to share: The unique stories of these four legends “have pushed us to evolve our style in new directions,” it says.
